This theme is the foundation for all the work of the City of Sanctuary movement throughout the UK and it’s at the heart of everything we do.
Like all City of Sanctuary organisations, we welcome everyone who comes here to find sanctuary.
If any one of us feared for our lives or the lives of our loved ones, we’d want to know that others would welcome us and help us to safety, wouldn’t we?
Whoever we are, wherever we’re from and however we have come to be here – whether we have run away from wars and violence, whether we are caught up in the confusion of the asylum system, or feeling overwhelmed by the experiences of fleeing our homes and arriving in an unfamiliar place, we all know that if we were in the same situations, we would hope to find people to welcome us into the new community and reassure us that we were safe.
Through simple, positive acts of kindness and compassion in our schools, like bringing children together to play, read and learn with each other – even if they don’t share the same languages – we can provide that feeling of safety and belonging for all children, young people and their families.
The books, games and activities in this FAB Fusion Welcome box will support teaching staff and family support workers with spoken and written literacy work and provide a bridge to connect with families who may be unfamiliar with the school system.
As with all the FAB Fusion collections, the books, games and activities in this FAB Fusion Welcome collection support teaching staff in their work to view the world’s cultures with mutual respect and shared appreciation.
In this FAB Fusion Welcome collection, you will find a combination that may include:
