Journeys

This theme supports teaching staff in helping children to explore the significance of journeys made, both factual and fictional, by humans, animals and even plants.

The books and activities in our FAB Fusion Journeys collection can help teaching staff and children to identify the meaning behind a specific journey and its purpose, in whatever context.

Please note: Being mindful that some children’s lived experiences of journeys to the UK may have been challenging and traumatic, it is essential for teaching staff to know the information that the school setting already holds about children with whom they’ll be working.  Thus, the books and activities that focus on animal migration are significant as an allegory for human migration.

It is also helpful for teaching staff to take time to research about the countries from which families originated or from which they may have fled.  At the same time, it’s important to be mindful and sensitive to avoid making generalisations about these cultural contexts and experiences.

As with all the FAB Fusion collections, the books, games and activities in this FAB Fusion Journeys collection support teaching staff in their work to view the world’s cultures with mutual respect and shared appreciation.

In this FAB Fusion Journeys collection, you will find a combination that may include:
