A key aspect to being part of the national City of Sanctuary network is campaigning for change to the asylum process so that it is more just and fair.
Working at a local level means we can bring the realties for many seeking sanctuary in Swindon to our key partners at a regional and national level to help bring about positive changes for people seeking asylum. This work enables us to meet our charitable object ‘to advance the education of the public in general, especially in Swindon, about the issues relating to refugees and those seeking asylum.’
Campaigns we’ve been recently involved in:
- Ukraine – we’re looking at how we, and others in Swindon, can help during this difficult time in Ukraine as war rages on and innocent people are suffering
- Transport Fund – providing a free monthly bus pass to people seeking sanctuary who are guests in our hosting scheme and to those we are supporting in other ways
- Show Your Heart – this has been a campaign throughout Swindon to show that we are welcoming to all people, and we have especially focused on schools for this campaign
