A campaign to launch Swindon as a ‘City of Sanctuary’ gathers momentum as the group prepares for its official launch next week.
Swindon City of Sanctuary is the latest of the emerging groups across the UK and Ireland to join the movement, set up a decade ago, the aim of which is to build a culture of welcome and provide safety to people seeking sanctuary from war and persecution.
Nicola Johnson, Chairperson of Swindon City of Sanctuary, said: “Our free launch event on October 13 is promising to be a very special, utterly unique evening with performers from India, Iran, Mongolia, Sudan and Swindon sharing the stage with key people in the movement.”
The public launch event has already attracted media attention as reported by the Swindon Advertiser.
